[edit] The search function
When opening a module, it's form is initially blank. For viewing and modifying any data, you have to search first, so this function is one of the most frequently used. You will use the search function also when filling out data in relation fields.
After hitting the search button in the toolbar, the search form pops up. Fill out the criteria fields located in the upper part of the the search form and activate the search button. Below that, the search result will be displayed, one record per line. Leaving all criteria fields empty will return all records (limited only by the size of the search result). If you press Ok without selecting any row, the search form will close and all found records will be displayed in the active tab, otherwise only the selected records are shown. You can browse through the data with the usual navigation buttons.
While filling out a relation field, hitting the enter key will try to complete it and any other related fields with data that matches the introduced search term. The specified string will be used as substring when looking for matches, e.g. "eek" may return "seek", "geek", "seeking", etc. The search may be executed using several fields of the related entity to get the result (e.g. name and identifier). If there is no or more than one search result, the search form pops up displaying this fact. You'll see the specified string in the name field. In unique-relation fields, when closing the search form with Ok, the first selected item will be used. (If no item has been selected, the first one will be used.) If there was no search result and you press Ok, the search form simply closes, and the initially introduced search criteria will stay unmodified.
The following is the search form for partners. Among the search criteria are the following: name of the company or departments, name of the contact, category, credit, debit, etc.
