[edit] Tracking quality of products and components
Traceability of lots and batches is necessary for quality management. Open ERP allows to trace lots of components used to build products and reversely find out all products built with components coming from the same lot.
Here is an example of a PC built with several components. Most of these components have a tracking number attached to the lot they come from. Each original lot corresponds to a supplier delivery lot.
The Basic+ PC is individualy identified by its serial number. The product can be viewed by Operations / Stock / All lots line.
In order to get details about what the product is made of, process action with the gear button and select Traceability: Article composition.
The result is the tree of all components used to build to product. Details are shown about the lots the components come from.
For instance, the fan comes from the FAN-010 lot.
If a PC has quality problem due to its fan, it would be adequate to look for other products built with fans coming from the same lot, and change them before they breakdown.
From the previous form, process action with the gear button and select Traceability: Derivated articles.
The tree shows that other fans from the same lot have been used. It is then possible to find where the other products are (still stored in the warehouse, shipped to which customer, and so on...).
